Ocean House, Paul do Mar, Madeira

Ocean House built in 2001 on the site of a traditional fisherman's house has 3 bedrooms (3 doubles) on 2 floors and sleeps 6. On the ground floor there is a lounge leading to a large open plan luxury fitted kitchen and dining-area on the Ocean side of the house. The kitchen door opens into a small courtyard with a barbecue. The courtyard has access to the Oceanfront. On the first floor there is the master bedroom with ensuite bathroom and an ocean view balcony. Next to the master bedroom is Bedroom 2. And next to this bedroom is a bathroom. On the top (second floor) is Bedroom 3 next to a sun-bathing terrace with ocean views. Also, on the top floor is the utility room with a washing machine. The house is tastefully decorated with nautical, African and European themes symbolising the owners passion for the ocean and life both in Madeira & South Africa.
Paul do Mar, a historic fishing village is one of the sunniest and hottest seaside villages in Madeira. Until the late 1960s you could only access this fishing village by boat. Popular activities in and around the village are: mountain walks. fishing, swimming, snorkelling and surfing. Also, the village is quite flat for Madeira, which is generally hilly and mountainous so its easy to walk around, roller-skate and cycle especially along the oceanfront. In the Spring and Summer there are many festas (festivals) and the streets are alive with different languages as the locals who live and work abroad return home to relax with family and friends!
Everything you need!: The village has a small supermarket, bakery and patisserie near the Catholic Church, a couple of shops in the centre, a bank with a cash machine, medical centre, and bars/cafes and restaurants in its 5 quarters. It is one of the most important fishing centres in the island with a new harbour opened in 1994. Swimming is easy from certain points including a slipway at one end of the village and a beach next to the harbour, 50 metres from Sunset House. In Calheta town (10 minutes drive away) is a yacht marina where dolphin-watching, whale-watching and big game fishing boats operate from, white sand beaches, an international art centre 'Casa das Mudas' which stages performances and exhibitions and small shopping centres and a supermarket. From Ribeira Brava easy access to North Coast: Sao Vicente, Porto Moniz.
